El Observador’s New Brand Identity
El Observador is one of Uruguay’s most respected and influential news outlets, a trusted name in journalism for over 30 years. Renowned for its uncompromising dedication to independent, high-quality reporting, it plays a critical role in shaping public discourse across Uruguay and the broader Spanish-speaking world.
The Challenge
As part of its evolution, El Observador aimed to revitalize its brand to reflect its ambitions of growth and global relevance. This transformation wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about reaffirming the brand’s position as a leading voice in Spanish-language journalism. The challenge was to create a cohesive brand identity that conveys the professionalism, credibility, and modernity needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global media landscape.
Research and Strategy
We didn’t approach this as merely a design exercise. Instead, we partnered with El Observador as strategic collaborators, facilitating workshops and collaborative sessions to help articulate their vision and values. Together, we redefined the brand’s tone and positioning, ensuring that every element of the identity communicated its renewed mission with clarity and purpose.
Logo Development
The new logo pays homage to El Observador’s rich heritage while addressing the functional and aesthetic demands of modern media. We resolved spacing issues and typographic inconsistencies from the previous logo, introducing a refined sans-serif typeface that feels fresh but timeless. At its heart is the iconic “O,” which has been reimagined into a balanced symbol that represents both tradition and forward-thinking ambition.

A sleek “EO” monogram anchors the logo as a versatile shorthand for the brand. This compact, modern design ensures instant recognizability across the digital platforms where today’s audiences interact most.
